The Avoidance of hiring people
Morrison Marketing is a small company. Being that it must utilize the advantages of being small to the topmost leverage. The large corporations and more connected consultants will do so.
Although it is almost sad to say, Morrison Marketing plans on never truly hiring anybody from the traditional sense. The company must leverage the advantage of having one person to split the profits with and one person to make decisions. The margin of going from 1 person to 2 is not worth it.
There are many reasons why this is so and I will go over them in this post to not only store it for my company, but also for other people who may stumble upon this blog and find interest in it for some reason.
1. Regulations- This is a simple answer for not hiring anyone. I must worry about an infinite number of things going wrong for that person. We live in a litigious society where you risk you brand and bank account if you mess up and get involved in a legal mess against the government. You cannot win a court case against the government, they will exhaust you and you will not be found guilty, but they will win in the end.
Healthcare is another basket of worries. I do not want to have to file more paperwork and have to worry about the health of an employee I hire.
Race is a factor also in affirmative action scenarios. I could hire a black to supposedly appear "Diverse" or whatever that means. I will face the possibility of racism accusations if he files a frivolous claim. If I hire a white person I can much easily fire them and not worry about a lawsuit.
2. Management I want to be a marketer and not a manager. I do not want to have to rely on another person and do not want to have to yell at them for coming to work 3 hours late and grumpy. I do not want to have to somehow motivate them and to worry about if they are working when I am gone. I do not have to worry about a job being done when I am not supervising them. I do not have to worry about all the management processes. Management has the biggest marginal drop in costs if you go from managing one person to zero.
The more important thing about this is that I just do not want to have to rely on someone who will not care as much for the business, who may not even be a good hire, and another person to sustain that takes a lot of time to train and then may move on to a much better paying firm.
3. Costs- I need to run the most efficient firm possible to beat the competition. As Rockefeller once said, "Keep costs down and revenues will fix themselves". While being a marketer I think you can up some of those costs in marketing and get some more revenue, but he had the general point.
Labor costs are without a doubt the largest cost to most businesses. It costs a lot of money to sustain good talent. You pretty much get what you pay for and in this industry it is nothing but a Linkedin email from n employee being snatched up from underneath your feet.
